On 25th March, the government and Companies House announced a joint initiative that grants businesses a 3-month extension for the filing of their accounts. This comes as a response to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, and the governments wish to provide more than just financial assistance.
The aim of the extension to the filing deadline is to grant businesses the time to prioritise managing the impact of the Coronavirus outbreak.
Who is eligible?
- Any UK registered company that faces, or will face, difficulty in filing their accounts on time due to the Coronavirus outbreak.
How to apply for the extension
The process of applying for the 3-month extension is completed entirely online via Companies House, and will take approximately 15 minutes to complete. Companies House have stated that extensions will be granted ‘automatically and immediately’.
Business should make the application in advance of their filing deadline, as soon as they become aware that the deadline will not be met.
To complete the process of applying for the 3-month extension, you will need to have the following information to hand:
- Your company number
- An email address
- Information about your extension reasons
- Any documentation that supports your application (this is optional)
You will need to register with Companies House online if you do not already have login credentials.
